Jamaican sprinters Usain Bolt, Yohan Blake and Asafa Powell will race in the men's 100-metre final (4:50 p.m. ET) — barring the unexpected in the semifinals earlier in the day — and prove to everyone who is truly the fastest man in the world right now.
Their path to the gold medal will be challenging, though. They'll face off in the semifinals (2:45 p.m. ET) with the likes of Americans Justin Gatlin and Tyson Gay while Trinidad & Tobago's Richard Thompson also has a personal best time in the event of 9.85. Justyn Warner is Canada's lone representative.
After round one of qualifying, Blake is third with a time of 10.00, Powell is fifth with a time of 10.04 and Bolt is ninth with a time of 10.09, while Gay is eighth with a time of 10.08. Two other Americans, Ryan Bailey and Gatlin, had the fastest times at 9.88 and 9.97, respectively.
But Bolt vs. Blake is the big storyline in London after Blake stunned Bolt to win both the 100 and 200 at this summer's Jamaican track trials.
At the Beijing Olympics in 2008, Bolt wowed audiences around the world with stunning world-record-setting victories in the 100- and 200-metre dashes, and the 4x100m relay. Bolt ran even better at the 2009 world championships, again winning three gold medals and lowering his own world records in the 100 and 200 to 9.58 and 19.19 seconds, respectively.
But his times since have been pedestrian by the standards of the world's fastest man. At the 2011 world championships, Bolt defended his 200 world title and helped his Jamaican team break their own relay record, but he was shockingly disqualified in the 100 final for a false start, and the title went to Blake.
If Bolt, who won all four of his 100m races before the Jamaican trials, can pull out the victory, he'll become the first athlete to repeat as Olympic champ in both the 100 and 200.
Chat live with fellow fans beginning at 3:45 p.m. ET.

Jamaica's Usain Bolt will have fans in the Olympic Stadium screaming and on their feet shortly before 10pm - just as the rain starts coming in from the south, forecasters said.
Heavy showers and thunderstorms could hit the final straight of the women's marathon on The Mall in central London before clearing for most of the athletics at the Olympic Park.
But it will be "touch and go" whether Bolt has to face the weather as his final runs at 9.50pm.
Paul Mott, a meteorologist with MeteoGroup, the weather division of the Press Association, said: "There's a risk of some rain coming in from the south about 10pm. Most of the athletics should be dry, but it'll be a bit touch and go for the 100m final."
